This record is probably unbeatable. Ripken played 500 more consecutive games than Gehrig, which is three+ seasons. Everett Scott (1,307) and Steve Garvey (1,207) are third and fourth on the list, which demonstrates how difficult it is to make it the show every day for more than even a half dozen years. If the currently active player with the most consecutive games, Ryan Howard (somewhere around 260 games), is going to do this, he won't achieve it until the 2023 season.

I had the opportunity to play with Cal and his record is amazing. You are right that this accomplishment took talent, a determined will, and luck. I don't think it will ever be broken because of the nature of the game today. Organizations are over protective of their superstars today and with the amount of money invested they will make sure they have days off. Cal played through a lot of aches and pain and was a special player. I tip my hat to his determination

I suspect that this will be broken. Unlike the other records, which require a change in the game or a spectacular athletic performance, this requires talent, a determined will and luck. It won't be easy to break and it certainly won't be broken soon (I think the nearest active player is about 2000 games back) but it will be broken one day.
