In Crawford's day, many the parks were cavernous, they used pretty primitive gloves, etc. It was a very different game- it was segregated, spitballs were allowed, and it was more of a dead ball, generally low scoring sort of affair. Crawford was a terrific, underrated Hall of Fame slugging outfielder for the Reds and mostly Detroit, a fast guy and a good glove, and was a teammate of Ty Cobb. In fact, Crawford was one of the most underrated players in the majors during the first 25 years of the last century, who also holds the all-time triples mark.
