Any show that can plow through my driving anxieties and get me home in rush hour traffic - often laughing - is going to rank high with me. I don't always agree with his POV and he can sometimes wear you out with words as he proceeds to beat his point into the ground. But mostly he is hilarious, pleasant, intelligent and respectful of opposing opinions. This is truly the only radio show that has ever made me laugh out loud. But that isn't all due to Dennis - his low-key, dry-witted sidekick Sal cracks me up almost daily too. The sports stuff he launches into now and then is boring (for me) but, since we’re in the same age group, I enjoy hearing his take on some of the movies we both grew up watching. I know he’s considered conservative but he’s certainly not far right, seems to take most of it in stride and hits middle ground quite a lot. I think the impression about his politics is a little skewed due to his background on SNL…since it is apparently assumed that anyone who would land a job on that show would have to be slightly left of Lenin.

I can't listen to him since he found a new group of people to play to. He is a sell out and not very good at his job.

Since he made his right wing turn, he doesn't seem to be enjoying himself anymore. He just seems glum and cynical. It gets monotonous.

Contrary to what some neo-cons have suggested, Miller was never a liberal, but I always thought he was funny, sharp, and occasionally even enlightening. Unfortunately, he seems to have been so unhinged and unmanned by 9/11 that he dispensed with even the thought of moderate reflection and ran mindlessly into the welcoming arms of abrasive neo-con fanaticism. Of course, Miller doesn't play it that way on the radio. He's not abrasive; I've never heard him get nasty with callers, even when he's belittling them. In terms of intellect, he's light-years ahead of glorified bartender Sean Hannity or Vicodin-pig Rush Limbaugh or the thyroid-disease-eyed Limbaugh wanna-be Glenn Beck. He's not prone to psychotic rants (I haven't heard him take up Bill O'Reilly's cause about the liberal elite waging war on Santa Claus) or loofah-sex hijinks (at least not so far as we know...I'm sure Drudge is still holding "up close and personal" interviews with assorted male prostitutes to see if Miller employed any of them). Still, it has to be degrading for Miller, being as intelligent as he so obviously is, or at least was. Then again, since he left SNL, his career trajectory has generally been downhill. He hasn't been able to keep a TV show on the air. Movie roles seem to have dried up. He hasn't written any books lately. He's not funny at all anymore. Maybe the shrill, caustic buffoonery of right-wing talk radio is the only gig left in town for him. "Then again, I could be wrong..."

Dennis Miller has to be one of the most brilliant on-air personalities in America today. His logic is solid and his vocabulary is phenominal. You have to keep a dictionary nearby so you can quickly figure out what the heck a word he used meant. And he uses them correctly! Most of all, he's just a fantastic guy and very entertaining to listen to. Catch him when he has one of his old SNL buddies like Dana Carvey on and your in for some good laughs.
