I thought at the time he was copping Springsteen's "Born in the USA", by pairing a seemingly patriotic song with an ironically plaintive portrait of his life and times. On the other hand it brought Neil out of a terrible creative slump and back into the public eye, so it was worth 3 stars instead of a 2. Don't get me started on "Let's Roll".

Neil, always an eclectic and diverse performer, kind of came roaring back with a great anthem that rocked really hard. At the time, I'm sure a lot of people had written him off because his recent music was either subpar or confusing- it had been almost a decade since he did anything that a lot of fans had really, unequivocally felt mattered, but this loud and harrowing, poignant track was one of the best rock songs of the late 1980's. Superb stuff.
