 | frogger20190 (3) 07/12/2006 | Agree with the fact that touring this place is not the same after 9/11.
Sad sign of the times.
But notify your Congressman or Senator ahead of time, and you will be joined by others from your state for a personal guided tour.
And you will see the "bowels" of the Capitol on your walk from the Senate or House offices.
Don't miss the underground tram ride.

 | Cindyo (10) 10/13/2005 | The most recognized U.S. landmark in the country. It stands as a monument to the American people and the government within it. The building contains much information about the country and the state governments. Well worth the time if you have it.

 | GenghisTheHun (177) 07/25/2005 | This is a must see if you are an American. It is sad however, how much has changed with the security problem and all. You used to be able to wander around at will.

 | CanadaSucks (50) 03/24/2005 | Used to be 5 stars, now it's 3 because of security. When I worked in DC, I just walked in on my lunch hour and took in the wonderful sights. Now you need tickets, inspections, and armored guards. A real loss. . .what a shame.

 | rateitbe (0) 01/27/2005 | Totally agree with previous comment by Trisec. But, if you get a pass from your senator or congressman you can still see the inside (or at least you used to be able to? Go to their offices in DC to see about same unless you get them in advance of coming to the city. If you do get inside, don't miss riding the private subway for our leaders. You never know who you might run into.

 | TriSec (2) 08/03/2004 | It would be nice if you could get within a half mile of it, but the Bush fearmongering with their useless terrorist alerts has continually walled it off and pushed the ordinary citizen further and further away.

 | Lovestotravel! (0) 05/14/2004 | The Capitol is a beautiful building..full of history, art and government at work. Unfortunately right now they are building a new visitors center which has it a bit torn up on the outside. As for the person who was complaining about standing in line for hours...they should have done a little research. If you call your Representive or Senators office in advance they often provide special tours which bypass the outside line. This is what we did and it was great!

 | Redoedo (41) 06/27/2003 | It's a beautiful building- however, the closer you get to it, the worse it gets. For "safety" purposes, they have nearly destroyed the scenary with fences going every which way. And in order to get tickets for a tour, you have to line up at 7:00 in the morning and wait in line... that's unacceptable. We pay to keep this damned building going, and yet, we have to wait in line for hours on the off chance that we'll get a ticket (they only give out 1,000 a day). I'd love to see the inside of this wonderful building... the building that WE all pay for but have to go through hell to get into. When our precious buildings and monuments are locked so tight that our own citizens cannot see them, the terrorists have WON.

 | magellan (174) 08/11/2000 | I had the good fortune of having a friend who was an LA on the hill, who gave Capitol Building tours every once in a while. it is amazing to hear the history of this building - to check out the weird accoustical oddities, the bullet holes in the ceiling, the art, and in general just to feel the history / majesty of it all. About as close you can get to a cool historical experience in the US.

 | jkri642om (1) 11/03/1999 | Not well designed for tourists, but I guess it is a working office building.
