10/01/2007 |  Mornhinweg did a good job with Jeff Garcia down the stretch last year. The offense got a bit more balanced between run and pass, and the results speak for themselves.
But what the hell was he thinking last night against the Giants? With William Thomas, the guy responsible for protecting Donovan McNabb's blind side injured, the Eagles were forced to play second year player Winston Justice against Osi Umenyiora.
It was immediately clear that the Justice couldn't handle him. Umenyiora was running over him, through him, around him - whatever he wanted to do.
Now I'm not a football guy, but it seems to me that leaves you with three choices: 1) Give Justice help with a TE or a RB; or 2) Run the football; 3) Go to three step drops with quick hitting, underneath routes.
The Eagles did none of these things, and it was a miracle that Donovan wasn't carried off in a body bag. He was hit something like 20 times (sacked 12!), six times by Umenyiora.
Sometimes I think these guys make it too complicated.... they are so knowledgable about their discipline, that they overlook the real basic stuff.
Mornhinweg (and by association Andy Reid) should be fined for last night's performance.
