I saw the Ford's Theater before they renovated, and I am happy that I did. It was quite a site to see where President Lincoln was murdered by John Wilkes Booth. There is a lot of history to be gained by visiting the site, and museum has many historical artifacts of Booth's and Lincoln's.

Besides the important historical connections, this remains has an example of that long ago time when theatre was king and people of all backgrounds would go to see great Shakespearean dramas among other things.

When you walk in the door of the theater it's like stepping back into the year 1865. The Peterson House was a little more touristy. The Lincoln Museum, downstairs, is probably the best I've seen regarding the Lincoln Assasination. Well worth the trip, and it's FREE!!!

Fortunately, Ford's Theater is still standing and has been restored pretty much to its original configuration. Some other historic buildings in DC have not fared as well. I've seen a couple of performances there, and it is indeed an experience to realize that you are in a building (which actually is fairly small) with such historical significance attached to it.
