Awe-inspiring. But the little museum downstairs needs a real hosing down. And don't take the elevator!

I visited Jefferson's memorial the night after Bush's inauguration in 2005. It's a beautiful view from the opposite side of the river. The thing that always strikes me is how Jefferson is repeatedly quoted as being this rabid advocate for separation between church and state yet when your read his writings he routinely argues for the necessity of religion in public life- this is distinctly ominpresent when one visits his memorial and reads the walls.

Absolutely beautiful as it is also near cherry trees especially when they bloom. This memorial has 4 outdoor rooms representing the 4 terms FDR served as the president. It is worth the time to see.

Try to see at night. The glossing over his slaveholding remark of CanadaSucks is right on the money. In fact two separate quotes from are taken out of context and run together as if they were one quote. One must remember that this is a political memorial. The Lincoln Memorial had gone up and when the Democrats came in with FDR, they were determined to have a Democratic Party Memorial and so we got the Jefferson Memorial and the Jefferson nickel. Today, Jefferson could not be so honored so tainted is he by slavery.

Impressive. . .although it sure glosses over his slaveholding. . .still a worthy monument to the writer of the Declaration. The elevators for the handicapped and elderly are a little hard to find- keep looking for the signs.

Not as breathtaking as the Lincoln Memorial but nonetheless, a beautiful memorial. Nice at night.

A brilliant man with a brilliant mind- our country may not have been the same without him. This monument is the perfect way to celebrate all of Thomas Jefferson's contributions to our nation. It's espescially beautiful at night.

Go to the Jefferson Memorial at night and look at the city across the water. Breathtaking.

Thanks TJ for founding this great nation and for drafting a document for all democracies to use.

Jefferson is one of the most influencial persons in modern history - most Constitutions are based on his thinking. This monument is inspirational as was the person.

Especially attractive during the Cherry Blossom bloom.
