Damn the haters, this song is awesome. The dance is fun and everyone knows it so it's a blast at parties and school dances to get together and crank it. I have nothing against gangsta rap either; "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" is just pure fun, as it should be.

Is there any modern popular music that's not mediocre and boring?

Why this song is so popular is beyond me. I know the dance for the song is extremely popular, but I don't see anything great about the dance either. The song itself is mind numbing but not horrible. It makes me laugh and I can listen to it for a while, but it gets old quick.
