conservative if you advocate racking up a huge deficit or rushing into
war. The heart of conservatism used to be preserving the status
quo, supporting the traditional values of the community. That's
all well and good if it doesn't cross the line into imposing
said values on those who are peacefully adhering to a different set of
ethics or clinging stubbornly to outdated policies that don't reflect
the current needs and attitudes of the populace. The danger of
conservatism depends on how this delicate line is respected.
