 | ValkyrieVoice (0) 08/02/2008 | I swear to God! Disney? If they could? They'd buy all of Anaheim and move everyone out just to have the land to themselves! You can't get around down there due to all of the Disney bullshit and traffic. They're going way too elaborate for the space that they have acquired.

 | mrsjaded (0) 02/27/2007 | It's true about the court being at the top of the Matterhorn. If you know where to look you will find a TON of secrets about Disneyland you had no idea existed. One way to look is to Google it under "Disneyland secrets revealed" or "behind the scenes at Disneyland" for example. Also the secret "club 33" mentioned exists but for a very very high price! I know a doctor who is in that club and he has to pay a lot of money each year to stay in the club. But apparently it's worth it from what he told me. It's very elite and not very many people are a part of it or know about it.
I guess you could say I know a lot of secrets about Disneyland. If anyone has any questions or wants to know of any good websites about this subject just drop me a line and I will be happy to oblige.
To read about the (partial sized) basketball court go to: http://www.snopes.com/disney/parks/matterho.asp
...and to see the photo of the actual court go to: http://photoalbums.wdwmagic.com/data/500/5906DL_M_basketballcourt.jpg
For even more secrets about the Haunted Mansion go to: www.doombuggies.com/
Enjoy!

 | ColtSeries70 (14) 02/25/2007 | As a native Angeleno I went here a lot. It is a very fun place for the whole family to go. It is always fun. I love thunder mountain railroad
Space Mountain, splash mountain, and Mr Toad's wild ride. It is quite a place to go, but stay away from California Adventures. The fastpass deal in my opinion is also a scam. But if you overlook those 2 small things it might still be the happiest place on Earth. PS- In the French Quarter is a secret club called Club 33. They ultra gourmet food, but to go to a party there you have to have connections. Also did you know that in the matterhorn is a half basketball court for the employees. That too is an E ticket ride. Look out for Mickey!!

 | Merlin Ambrose (0) 09/06/2004 | (The 4 stars is meant as a neutral rating; the current average is 3.98 as I write.) What the commenters who urge you to plan ahead haven't said is that there are BOOKS on the subject, with detailed advice and maps, aimed at different kinds of vacationers (sometimes within the same book). You can check your local library's catalog and/or a librarian, or go to a good bookstore. I rather enjoyed reading the one or two I've seen, even though I don't intend to go in the foreseeable future (and never have gone, unless you count Epcot Center)--which is why I'm trying not to alter the park's rating much!

 | Annelie (0) 07/31/2004 | If you have a disability, think twice before going to Disneyland. The poicy has changed recently. Before the change, if your child had a disability, you would recieve a pass to bypass the long waiting. Granted now they have the fastpass, although it gives you a time and a hour window to go back to the attraction, you may only get one fastpass at a time per ticket. And not all attractions offer the fastpass. Which means alot of running back and forth. We dealt with that, what upset me was the coldness of the customer service rep when I asked about the special pass. A few days before I had spoken to someone on the phone at the Disneyland resort, and mentioned my sons problems, asked if I needed a Doctors note, she said it would not hurt to do so. Never mentioning that they no longer offered this pass. I would not have booked the trip had I known this. In line before me were two obvious disabled children who would not need a wheelchair but obviously would not beable to stand in line long enough to enjoy themselves, they were also sent away with the advice of using a fastpass. You will get use to it said the rep. I thought Disneyland was for the CHILDREN, Walt would be very upset about this. I remember as a child how wonderful Disneyland was. A place for kids. If you have a disabilty, be sure you bring a wheelchair. If you get tired easy, suffering with cancer, mentally challanged, name it,If you do not have one rent one, or you can rent one there AS SUPPLIES LAST. Or you could buy your way to the front of the line, but what family has that kind of money when they put every ounce of their lives including love time and money into their children. I will never step foot in that park again.

 | T.grandpa (0) 02/27/2004 | If you do a little advance planning, you can avoid most of the popular complaints about Disneyland. Last summer, mid-July, our longest wait in any line was 15 minutes at Small World, of all places. Don't plan to see it all in a day. It won't work. spend at least three days, and enjoy the time in lines, meeting new people etc. Don't worry about little ones enjoying the park. My 14 month old granddaughter had the time of her life - just make sure that you provide plenty of liquids, food, and, most important, nap time. I have read some complaints about the price of Disneyland. It will cost you as much or more to attend ONE L.A. Lakers game, or ONE L.A. Dodgers game as it will cost you for 5 days in Disneyland, if you do a little shopping, and advance planning. It is still the happiest place on earth! I can't wait to take my granchildren again!

 | kolby1973 (33) 10/25/2003 | If I was to compare Disneyland with Disney World's Magic Kingdom, I would definately say Disneyland is better for a variety of reasons. First, it is the first and original, and it was more fun to me because I went to Disneyland numerous times when I was a kid. I went to Magic Kingdom as an adult, so it just made a big difference, even though they are both close to the same thing. Sometimes I miss living in Los Angeles, but overall Orlando is still cleaner with more to do as far as theme parks go...

 | AngryBeaverGirlz (0) 03/21/2003 | I have to say that the last time I visited Disneyland, I was very displeased with my experience. Sure, I liked the park favorites, like Pirates of the Caribbean, Its a Small World, and Main Street... but the park really is WAY over priced. It's way too spread out for those of us who can only visit for one day. I miss "A Visit With Mr. Lincoln" the robotically enhanced American History lesson...was my favorite attraction as a kid. I think that Disney Corp should update their employee uniforms, as they all still looked as if they were wearing costumes made in the 60's. I only gave it a mediocre rating, as I'm smitten with love for Knott's anyway. And whats with Cat's rating.. does this person work for Disney Corp? sounds like an ad campaign for tourism... no hard feelings, your info was great and true, but a bit lengthy. If you go, enjoy.

 | Chaotician23 (0) 02/23/2002 | Disneyland is really fun. For all you idiots that moan about the long lines, all I can say is that it's like that everywhere and it's not really a 'nightmare.' To quote some: "Oh my god! Long lines! How will I ever survive? Fetch me some water!" Long lines come with the ride. It's a package deal. If there weren't lines you be in and out in a minute anyway and then you fools would complain about how Disneyland is to small and easy to get through and they rip you off. Get over it. For those that can enjoy America's happyland, Disneyland holds many thrilling and crafty experiances in store. My favorites rides include Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Matterhorn, and Indiana Jones. Those all combine fast-time action and interesting themes. Disneyland is probably the best theme park in the world save Universal Studios and they have really good churros.

 | #1FiennesGirl (0) 02/03/2002 | I love Disneyland, but it is crowded a lot. The worst time to go is the SUMMER! Duh! That's why it's crowded. Really, the best time to go is in the fall; the weather is nice and there are less people.

 | lorief (0) 01/13/2002 | Disneyland, the original Disneyland, is more than a theme park -- it's a return for childhood for those of us who grew up watching Walt Disney on Sunday nights. I've been to Disneyland once, as an adult, and when I walked through the main gate and looked up Main Street and the castle, it was like returning to an old familiar place, visited many times with Walt Disney.

 | hOtBaBie12701 (0) 12/07/2001 | smaller than disneyworld, but great! lot's of fun rides, eateries, etc.! if u are in/visiting CA, u MUST MUST visit disneyland! well worth ur $$!!
Note: Now, they've had this for about a year, everyone...they have FAST PASS. FAST PASS allows you to come back later(once u get a ticket, to). U can LITERALLY fly by lines!! it's great. so, say u get ur fastpass at 1:00. It says come back between 2 and 2:15(or whatever). u can go ANYWHERE for 1-2 and then come back and go on a SEPERATE line and go on the ride that u got that 2:00 FASTPASS for! see? it's awesome!!

 | raincat (0) 02/25/2001 | I'm a 40 year old female who has been to Disneyland twice: once as a child, and the other time 3 years ago. Both times I thoroughly enjoyed, and remembered, everything. The best thing about Disneyland is that there are enough rides for everyone of any age. My 67 year old father and my pre-teen equally enjoyed the thrill-rides, except my Dad opted out of a 2nd time at the Indiana Jones exhibit because of all the hiking. There always seemed to be a comfortable spot to sit and rest nearby, then it was on to Star Wars for these two, again , and again and again. Those with weaker stomachs like myself, may want to avoid this one, but there are still lots of great rides to enjoy: just bring along the Gravol in case! My favorite land in Disneyland is New Orleans Square. With the dixieland jazz music and iron grillework you can really imagine that you've just stepped into New Orleans. In my opinion the best ride in all of Disneyland is The Pirates of the Carribean--Definately one not to miss! I also love The Haunted Mansion- even before I got inside. The mansion looked real and impressive from the outside, and again, very New Orleans. Inside, it's alot of fun and a little cheesy and old-fashioned but humorous. You shouldn't have to worry about frightened pre-schoolers in this one. There are many combination packages to Disneyland at very reasonable rates, including accomodations, and I strongly recommend a one week stay rather than a 3 or 4 day one. This allows for a less pressured schedule, because although fun and pleasureable, Disneyland can take alot out of people, especially children and older people, and you don't want the fun ruined by crankiness and sore feet. The biggest drawback to Disneyland is the line-ups for rides, so it pays to plan to go at non-peak days and times, and come up with some strategies. My best tips: !)Everyone should wear comfortable shoes-preferably athletic type shoes and cotton socks. 2)The food at Disneyland is, for the most part, mediocre but expensive- so if possible eat most of your meals outside the park and bring some snacks and water with you. 3) But don't bring alot of stuff with you. Not only is it cumbersome to have bulkybags or numerous items to carry like bag, jacket, camera, etc., but it is easy to lose or misplace things on rides etc,and some rides have no room for extra baggage. I have found the best thing is for each adult to have a small back pack with essentials: water, snacks, light jackets, moleskin bandages for feet that are getting tender and prone to blister, sunscreen, wallet inside, camera zipped in outer pocket, small appropriate toys or activities for children to keep occupied while waiting in line, and wet-wipes, facial tissue and any needed items like medication. Don't fill the packs too much at all, or it defeats the purpose. For wilder rides, hats can be zipped inside for safe-keeping. Another must-do ride for everyone is Peter Pan's Flight. A good place to rest, and cool-down but be entertained at the same time is the Country Bear Playhouse show in Critter Country. The Mark Twain paddleboat is also a nice way to cool down. A note for heavier people: both my father and myself were nearly 280 lbs. at the year of our trip, but had no trouble fitting into all the rides we went on. Don't miss It's a Small World, or the story book boats.
Make sure you do allow time for rest at the hotel so everyone can have time just to wind down a bit. -Helps clashes of temper and cases of the grouchies! Remember, you're paying for your room too. Make sure to have coloring books etc. for kids in the room and books and toys, and books or magazines and cards for older kids and adults. I enjoy bringing along a toteable knitting or cross-stitch project which I love to do while watching a little TV during down times. Try to get a room with a mini fridge and microwave to save money on snacks and breakfasts, even some lunches. Milk, cereal, microwaveable popcorn, pop, juice, bottled water, fruit, cheese and crackers aren't alot of work to fix and you'll enjoy the convenience of having them in the room. If you are on a serious budget plan ahead and bring along a can-opener, cutlery, microwaveable dishesand containers, a small bottle filled with dishsoap, a dishcloth and towel and you can prepare simple meals- even dinners of canned foods like beans or pasta, with canned vegetables. Dont forget non-breakable cups for milk and juice and mugs for coffee and tea- or call and see if there are mugs in the room. All rooms should have glass glasses for adults. Enjoy Disneyland and please add your own tips here for others when you return! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TOO NEVER GO TO DISNEYLAND DURING SUMMER VACATION. Shroomwoman did and that's probably why her trip was such a "nightmare". - Probably alot of others on this page complaining did too, or else at other peak times. The entire world knows about Disneyland- you must go in the off-season and even then come up with planned strategies for making the most of things. Please, think, plan and enjoy!!!

 | PoorOldEdgarDerby (4) 01/07/2001 | I visited Disneyland once, almost ten years ago now and although I had a good time and thought it was worth seeing I find it hard to believe I will ever go back. The enormous theme park scene just isn't really my thing, I'm not really a big fan of large crowds and if you aren't either then I suggest you skip. Like any park of this size expect long lines and huge crowds, high prices and expensive, fast food. Glad I went when I did (when I was about 18), at this age I wouldn't have the patience to put up with it all.

 | nashoba (0) 09/30/2000 | Disneyland is a nightmare. Long lines, crowded, you can't even move. Disneyland is way overrated. Don't bother with this park. Try another like Knott's Berry Farm or Magic Mountain.

 | Read My Lips (0) 09/12/2000 | Disneyland is too crowded! We had to wait in a long line to buy tickets, and then in another long line to get into the park. The first thing we wanted to ride on, the train that goes all around the park, would have taken at least an hour. In some areas it was hard even to walk around because of the crowds. On the positive side, the rides are still good and the employees are very polite and patient.

 | alicat (3) 08/24/2000 | I am shocked that Disneyland is not rated higher on the list. How could you ever not give Disneyland a 5? That is beyond me. I love Disneyland. I know it is for kids. I wouldn't go there for my wedding or anything but it is a really fun place. It is filled with great rides, great restaurants, yes, there are long lines, and it is really crowded but that goes to show how fun it is. There is a creativeness there that no other place can capture.

 | Shroomwoman (13) 08/10/2000 | My trip to Disneyland this week can only be described as a nightmare. Upon arrival, my family and I faced such incredible crowds we thought seriously about leaving (and we would have left if we had not had two young children with us). We stood in two separate lines in the hot sun for one hour just to ENTER the park, and things did not improve once inside. The streets and sidewalks were absolutely packed with people, which made it difficult to navigate (don't even think about using a stroller). Waits for the rides ranged from 45 to 90 minutes. The worst part was when we stood in line for nearly 30 minutes and then realized that we were in the wrong line (some of the car rides are not clearly marked). We simply gave up after that. At one point, I thought to myself that this is what hell must be like. I only wish someone had warned us before we wasted an entire day at this miserable place.
