Some years ago, there used to be a guy in a van selling hot dogs alongside Rt. 46 in Fairfield, NJ. Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring, he'd have an attractive, well-built blonde in a string bikini standing in the doorway of the van waving to the cars going by. All she did was smile and wave. Smile and wave. Smile and wave. She wasn't holding a sign, and I'm not sure a string bikini qualifies as a costume, but she sure got my attention, every single time I drove by. Then again, I never bought a hot dog from the guy during all that time either, so I guess it's a moot question how effective the advertising was..

I have seen that going past businesses. feel a bit sorry for the employee stuck doing this crappy job. but at least it is a job.remember getting behind a man who was in a dress as "miss liberty" for liberty taxes. it was in the winter he was buying coffee. he said to the employee at Wendys "how do you ladies wear dresses, i am freezing my butt off" guess costumed curb advertising may bring in customers. I never have bought something because of curb advertising.

I've seen this since I was a child people hawking things dressed like clowns, animals, giant food items. It always seemed like a pretty bizzare way to make a living - even parttime. Yet, it must work at least to a degree as the practice seems to have continued into the 21st century and yet another generation is busily at work humiliating themselves.

Good enough to get a honk from me... that's about it.

Might as well hold a trick-or-treat bag in the other hand.

Not unless a person is trying to sell costumes.

The only thing I want to buy is a big cold drink for the poor sap stuck in the monkey suit (or whatever it is supposed to look like).

Alright, these guys have both my attention and my pity (like the guy who consistantly dresses up as a gigantic banana by the smoothie place down the street.) Sure it draws the eye, but it doesn't make me want to buy the product.
