Seven miles of soft, golden sand, unusual in these rocky parts. Surf is moderate to heavy, ideal for boogie boarding, but be careful of riptide and undertow. Thankfully, it's lifeguarded during beach hours. A large pavilion offers typical summer snacks like hot dogs and ice cream, beach equipment in case you left your sunglasses or beach blanket at home, and the requisite bathrooms and showers. An adjacent amusement park features rides and games for the kids, and the beach hosts numerous entertainment events such as concerts and car shows. Westerly is a resort town, so there's a decent selection of waterfront restaurants, bars, and lounges. The beach is packed shoulder-to-shoulder on weekends, so go on a weekday if you can. Parking is not a problem, but traffic jams can be.
