I would say that it could go both ways, hence the "three" rating. Both my parents as well as my uncle all had pneumonia and it was NOT a pleasant experience for any of them.

Fortunately, I have yet to contract it and the idea of getting this illness freaks me out since I'm a total germophobe.

In the very young or old, this disease can still be fatal, especially if the victim doesn't receive proper care. Thankfully, it can be treated very successfully in most cases, often without hospitalization.
