My sister watched figure skating a lot when we were younger, and I remember the time following Grinkov's death. I'm not really a figure skating fan, so this didn't effect me that much, but it was a sad story.

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov were still at the peak of their game, coming off their second Olympic championship, when a sudden heart attack took Grinkov's life at the age of 28. He had just recently had a thorough physical and had passed with flying colors. His death made skating partner Gordeeva a 24-year-old widow and single mother to three-year-old daughter, Daria. As one of the most celebrated and personally beloved pairs skaters of all time, his death was keenly felt throughout the skating world.
