As the director of my favorite film (or at least one of them), namely "Forrest Gump" (1994), I would really like to rate Zemeckis higher (and I'm rounding up to 4 stars); however, I can't go higher for several reasons. I will say that "Back To The Future" (1985) was a great movie for what it was, but the sequels were much weaker and a money grab in my opinion. Moreover, "Romancing The Stone" (1984) was too formula, though perhaps that's due to a poor screenplay. Not a favorite of the critics if memory serves, but I thought "Contact" (1997) was a decent adaptation of Carl Sagan's book, and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988) was a landmark film in its use of special effects. Nevertheless, the "Future" series money grab and some other disappointing efforts cost him in my book. Robert Lee Zemeckis was born May 14, 1952 in Chicago.

Cast Away was pretty bad! Aside from that I've really liked his movies. Including: Back To The Future, Forrest Gump, Who Frammed Roger Rabbit and Polar Express!

Very overrated. "Back to the Future" was teenage fare, "Romancing the Stone" was just another tepid remake, "Cast Away" had its moments at the beginning and in mid-film, but then just ran out of gas. "Forrest Gump" was populist nonsense. Hasn't made a totally realized, mature and enduring work yet, but there's still time.

Robert Zemeckis has got a lot of talent, and I'd go on to say that he is nearly great. My rating of him is more of a 4.5 than a 4. I've enjoyed most of his films, including "Forrest Gump", "What Lies Beneath", "Contact", and "Back to the Future". Of course, I was disappointed with "Cast Away", but I still thought that he did a fine directing job with that film, but no matter how good the acting or directing is, I just cannot stay interested in a film that consists of two hours of someone talking to a soccer ball. Perhaps in a few more years when Zemeckis puts out another great film, I'll raise his rating to a five, but for now, he's "near great" in my book.

Every movie he directed i have loved to watch. Who doesn't enjoy watching the back to the future trilogys. They are awsome. He Has directed many hits and i dont thisnk he gets the respect he deserves.

I agree with Ruby... Calling Zemeckis "great" isn't quite appropriate, but he's made some extremely likable films over the years. "Romancing the Stone" was entertaining, as was "Back to the Future." And I really enjoyed "Forrest Gump," despite the fact that people seemed to get a little carried away with it. "Cast Away" was a little bit of a disappointment, especially the ending, but I can understand the argument that the film had to end in that ambiguous way. I don't think anyone would ever describe Zemeckis as "edgy," but he makes good movies.

I wouldn't call him a great director, but he's got a talent for making extremely likable films and doing it with consistency. That's a talent in short supply these days.

Back To The Future was such a great series, that that's all he really needs to be called terrific.
