05/01/2008 | 2.5 A mixed bag as a player, struck out a lot, didn't have much discipline at the plate and tended to post low averages. On the other hand from about 1980-1984 he hit a lot of homers for both the A's and the Red Sox, tying for the league lead with Oakland in '81 and leading the league with Boston in '84. With Oakland, he was also a pretty good fielder with a pretty decent arm. By '86 injuries made him a part timer, and he spent a few more years on the bench with the Angels- in those days, the Angels were just like the Giants are today, a rest home for ancient, senile players...
