The gold medal team from 88 and Soviet's last Olympic Basketball team, featured Arvydis Sabnois and Suranos Marciulonis who went on to have fine NBA careers along with Alexander Volkov, who also went onto NBA but didn't have as good as career. This team was coached by Alexander Gmoelsky who drew up a solid game plan to counter John Thompson's full court press--by having Sabonis throw pass over pressure defense into front court to break press in the semi final where they defeated US and went onto gold medal game and defeated Yugoslavia.
