In the 2000 Olympics, the US Men's basketball team began to lose its aura of invincibility. One key reason being it didn't put out the best possible team it could have as several star players electing not to play such as Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson. It was still a good team with Kevin Garnett as its best player and it featured Vince Carter who performed perhaps the greatest dunk of all time as he leaped over 7-foot-2 center Fredric Weiss in a prelim game. However the team had a tough game in the prelims against Lithuania when it won 85-76, the first time a team with NBA players didn't win by double digits and then almost lost to Lithuania again in the semi finals of the medal round when Sarunaus Jasekevicus missed a desperation three pointer and the US escaped with a two point victory. In the gold medal game, in another tough contest it beat France 85-75. This team had strong perimeter talent but the team's weakness was it only had two players in Alonzo Mourning and Antonio McDyess.
