2004 USA 2

This squad was by no means the best talent USA Basketball could field using NBA players. If the Dream Team was a perfect 10 in terms of talent, this roster may have been a  seven as it was not able to use Kobe Bryant-who had to deal with legal proceedings from his rape charges while the likes of Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O'Neal elected not to pay. Still this team had good talent and a great coach in Larry Brown but for what ever reason things just didn't click for them as it struggled in exhibtions before the Olympics while Larry Brown didn not want too use LeBron James and it resulted in three loses in Athens-the first three loses ever in Olympic history to Puerto Rico, Russia and Aregentina when the US used NBA players- which was quite stunning and resulted in US Basketball making several changes when selecting a team, most notably requiring multi year commitments to US Basketball so the team could develop some cohesiveness instead of just rounding up 12 players for the summer and USA Basketball turning to Mike Krzyweski of Duke University to coach the the team at the 2006 World Championships and 2008 Olympics.
