Is this why all the other techs I know in the satellite business don't like me?

If "showing off" is the resulting perception of someone "taking great pains to do things right", then I would think that a client, or an employer would encourage this kind of "showing-off". Then, there are the observers who are intimidated...kick themselves by asking why they didn't (or couldn't) make the same effort, which of course, is distracting them from taking the same great pains necessary to do what they are supposed to be doing (right). The Green Eyes of Envy....Anyone who finds that they are spending time grimacing over other peoples' successes, most likely aren't aware that they are sinking deeper into the muck of their own perceived mediocrity.Of course, this happens at all levels. Recently, I watched the documentary "Untold Wealth: The Rise of the Super Rich". In one excerpt, a woman, who travels in the very, very wealthy circle of hedge fund managers, made around $20 million by selling her web site. But, the people who she associates with were worth $75 mil and up into the billions. SHE felt that SHE had been doing something wrong...that she was inferior and mediocre and clueless...

I think most people [annoyed with those who always attempt to do the right thing] feel that way because it makes them look bad by comparison.

I don't think that's what most people think of others who take great pains to do things right. I think that most people believe you are obsessive compulsive or anal retentive if you are afflicted thusly.

Ridiculous! Maybe they really are just trying to do things right or in other words, do the right thing.

Doing things right is ... doing things right. You do it because it is the right thing to do. If you do it to show off, it is still the right thing to do. Do things right and don't pay attention to what others think or say.

This could be true in some cases, but I truly think the majority of people who take the time to do something right is genuine in their actions.

I'd say it's 50/50 or close to it. Although it's true that a fair number of people do things a certain way to "strut their stuff", it is unfair to say this is true of everyone. Perhaps someone is simply wanting to "do things right". Nothing wrong with that at all if one's motives are pure.
