Next time I'll renew the warranty on the furnace. I could have saved at least $100. last week when the furnace quit. This is a must in the northern mid west and usually I get calls about this in the summer when of course I think winter is so far away.

True story from my first marriage: My wife called me at work in a panic, saying that the oven didn't work. The stove elements would heat, but the oven, which had worked fine the day before, would not. Her parents were coming for dinner, and she was panicked. I told her it was probably a fuse, and told her how to check to see if one was blown. She did, and none of them were. I suggested she call a repairman. I got home at the same time the repair guy showed up. He walked into the kitchen, my wife thanking him for being quick and babbling out the problem. He grunted, looked at the control panel, and reset the timer, which my wife had used for the first time the day before. He shrugged, looked at us, and said "That's a fifty dollar service call. I won't charge you for the labour." It was a tossup as to whether my wife or I felt stupider.

Depends on what needs to be repaired.
