Speaking of the concept would be reduced to using "God-less cult." We have enough oxymorons in society.I say put the word on the "-ism" list and be satisfied.

Some atheists can be as unbending in their beliefs as fundamentalists. I favor a spike in agnosticism. As for the ongoing debate on this post: Nobody I know ignores the role of religious fanaticism in the 9/11attacks. Those events underline the importance of the First Amendment's protection of religious freedom. People came to this country, many of them, to escape religious intolerance. Because of our Constitution, we are not (keep your fingers crossed) a theocracy. We can choose to believe, or not believe, as we wish. Pot shots at atheists, as well as any religion, are pot shots at our Constitution.

I could never be an atheist, but what right do I have to tell atheists to "ditch" their belief system? I could care less if someone was an atheist, although I would get peeved if they tried to convert me to their way of thinking.

Update for Mooses Ass. Atheists are opened minded? Yeah...so much so that your brain fell out. This would explain why my point about 9/11 rocketed right over your brainless head. Thanks for the comment though, its gets quite boring around here without fools like you around. Update: Also CS, lets not forget that Christianity takes the brunt of the criticism, again, youre talking about events that happened centuries ago, whats happening today with Christians is anyone who goes to church on Sundays is pretty much labeled a fundamentalist by Atheist. Some Christians are a little whacked out but they dont strap bombs to themselves. How much discussion is there about the atrocities of Atheism in the hollowed halls of your grad school, much of which happened in this past century. Louie asks the question, "Why do they fight so fervently against something they say does not exist?" Well, some are just cozy believing in the nonexistence of God. Todays Atheist movement..."and it is a movement", not only reject theism...they hate God with a passion. The fundamentalism of religion is what drives their hate. It was fundamentalism that murdered 3000 people on 911, funny how liberals and atheist never bring up Islam, they always bring up the lives lost in the crusades and the inquisitions at the hands of Christianity. I'll give you some numbers just from the past century until now, godless Atheist are responsible for more than 100 million deaths. Atheist hold conventions, many books on the religion of Atheism are best sellers. Atheism is a billion dollar enterprise. Many scientist and Christians today realize that creationism and evolution aren't really a separate discussion.

Brother Dave Gardner had the last word on this subject:
Dearhearts, let us break down and examine Atheism...

They think when they die that they are all dressed up with no place to go! As I have said in other posts before, "Why do they fight so fervently against something they say does not exist?" That puzzles me.

. . . it is a sad state of affairs when people believe that a non-violent, non-harmful point of view should be done away with simply because it doesn't fit in with their beliefs. That goes for any religion or lack thereof. It is one thing to endorse your own beliefs, but it is entirely another to slam someone else's beliefs that don't affect you.

Ditched it a long time ago.

Atheists say believing in God is unreasonable (yes, I made it much nicer), yet in order to swallow what they believe one has to accept that all we have is here purely by accident. Frankly, I find it much easier to believe that everything we have is by design than by dumb luck.
Atheists say showing faith shows a lack of common sense, yet there are countless archives, written testimony, and traditions that have been handed down for centuries that support the existence of a supreme being. Locations where these stories took place still exist today. Anything that surfaces supporting the beliefs of Atheists have been proven to be a hoax, particularly anything supporting the theory of evolution. Atheists still pound the table insisting they are right, despite no valid evidense supporting what they say. Makes me wonder how they can continue to support a belief with no evidense. Must be... faith.

I fall back Psalm 14:1 because it says so much. "The fool hath said in his heart There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
ROCKTRAIN69 01/18/2008
They are not really Atheist, let them hang on a thread of their life, maybe a cliff, or, on their death bed, let death stare them in the face at the same time scaring the living hell out of them, I bet they woud call on God.
No, I tell you what happen to humanity, they refuse to live in peace, and they reject God, the real God, and it started with Adam, by one man sin entered into the world, and so death passed upon all men (Rom 5 read the whole chapter) So don't expect God to straighten everything out, He gave man chances, and on top of that he opened up a dispensation of grace,(Ephesians 3:1-3) giving every one under the sun to just trust what He did at calvary, reconciling the world unto Himself. What great hope we have, but Atheist have no hope, not as long as they stay in their stupidity, the fool has said in his heart there is no God.

Atheists are afraid to accept God. They want proof that he exists while they can not prove he doesn't. They explain away miracles saying science through some evolutionary feat caused the unexplainable to happen. They resent the very thought of a God and resent anyone who believes in him.
MissPackRat4Je sus 01/18/2008
Wouldn't hurt my feelings if they did. God's what's happenin'! As I heard someone say: "You say there is no such place as Hell... you'd better hope not!"
CanadaSucks 01/17/2008
"Because faith with no evidence whatsoever has done so much for humanity!"

We may as well ditch the freedom to think what you want in the process. If you want to ditch atheism, perhaps a society like Iran would be a more comfortable environment.
twansalem 01/17/2008
I don't feel like getting into a religious debate today. So I'll just say yes, let's ditch atheism, and the typical superiority complex that seems to afflict so many atheists (or at least the more vocal ones).
