I'm near the point now where I don't need wires or discs for any purpose. My house is Wi-Fi, and my next nav system for my car will be Wi-Fi ready with a hard drive, it will simply access my home's wireless network to retrieve media from my PC's, no need for ipods or even thumb drives.

Never! Wireless peripherals are a pain and require battery changes and the like all the time. Having wires isn't exactly impractical and it's also a lot easier to deal with... and a lot cheaper.
