Now a lot of you may hear about this movie lacking in certain areas such as: bad camera, boring opening, plot holes, lack of monster shots and lack of explanation. With that being said, those aren't the points that the movie was trying to hit. The movie is shot with a first person camera that is very shaky, but I can't imagine someone going through this and holding a camera very steady. The first part of the movie is not intense but sets up the story nicely to let you know why the people do the things they do in the movie. There are things that make you go like wait how did that happen, but you can look at every single movie ever made and pin-point problems like that. The lack of monster shots and explanation ADDS to the effect that the makers are going for in the fact that the movie takes place over a single night and the characters in the movie don't get an explanation either. This isn't a movie that was made to be some dramatic masterpiece with a neatly done opening and wrapping things up nicely with perfect closure. This movie was made to be a pure thrill ride and that's exactly what it is. A MUST SEE!

The Monster,When we got to see it was pretty good, BUT..The film overall didn't do it for me. No Wonder I got it in the $5 bin at Big Lots.

Having failed to see this film at an Odeon theatre in London (my girlfriend became violently sea-sick), I thought the promising beginning of it could be a precursor to how the film would end up. A cool monster-flick, yeay! I was wrong. All in all, the film is almost worse than Spielberg's take on "War Of The World". A group of people form in New York, USA, to say good-bye to a friend who's going away to work in Tokyo, Japan. Everything that is seen is filmed by a participant of the party, who is quite uninteresting as a person, hence in my eyes numbing the film a little. Anyway, as a few of the characters squander to intrigue over who's hooking up with who, something detonates. People find something otherworldly is tearing up NY. Woo! Sadly, this was the promising bit. Hereafter all is running - with no suspense á la "Alien" whatsoever - or trying to avoid dying, which is boring. I felt little or no sympathy for the characters, and the script felt very thin. All in all, nice special effects but a very dumb film which feels bad, as I think it could have become good with a bit more thought and intelligence.

Implausible bit with the never say die camera. Other than that it is an exciting and scary monster flick. Good special effects.

It's a film that wants to be smarter than it really is. The protagonist/hero is supposed to be a VP of a company who is about to be transferred to Japan- but he whines like a high schooler about unfulfilled love throughout the whole movie. And the guy holding the camera (constantly) while a monster is shredding Manhattan is a stretch. NYPD Blue and music videos are partly to blame for the shaky-camera syndrome that passes for good cinema. There are a few scares and good momemnts, but the outright stupidity balances this production out. .

I liked this movie, and of course i have it. From watching the making of, i think some1 said, the huge monster was only a baby. If you like monster movies this film is the right 1 for u. i just don't wanna give anything away.

Honesty, worst horror movie I have ever seen. It's a good movie in theory. I should have listened to the blockbuster guy when he said it sucked. The idea of the main character carrying around a camcorder while NY is being attacked by some monster sounds good but is not realistic the way they made it, or tried to make it, out to be.

All I can say is I wish I'd thought of the idea. I loved it - its not perfect, but a truly excellent effort. I will say that it demands creativity and participation from the imagination of the audience, so if you lack vision don't bother. No spoon feeding here.

Total nonsense. Other than some rather improvised special effects easy to do with little money and equipment, this I can't even call it a movie. It's so... amateurish. Not worth the price of the ticket.

I have not seen it yet as it just came out. I will give it a neutral.

Great movie, but pay heed to the cautions that you might throw up.SYNOPSIS: Coming from the viewpoint of young New Yorkers with a handheld camera (evidentally with an amazing battery life), it's a "eyewitness" account of a gigantic bizarre monster attack on Manhattan. PROS: The concept of the handheld camera fake eyewitness accounts didn't work for Blair Witch, in my opinion, but I think this time they got it right: unlike Blair Witch, yes, they had a script (some of which is kinda cheesy), and they had a lot of special effects. Which you're going to need when you have a beheaded Statue of Liberty.CONS: It's going to be one of those "either you love it or you hate it" movies. The "covenient" catching of all the important things by the camera is a little too perfect at times, which ruins the illusion if only for a moment. And, of course, the nausea from the camera motion. A lot of people aren't going to be affected by it, but I was. Not even halfway through, I felt pretty miserable. I felt like I was going to chuck right up until I went to sleep. Never did, though, so I consider that a "win" on my part. And the end was kinda lame.OVERALL: Don't come into the theater expecting any explanations, or any actual plausible reason on how this funky looking monster just came out of nowhere and started tearing up the city. It's a very narrow viewpoint we're looking through here: if the characters don't know it happened, then you don't know. You're going to walk out with a lot of questions that you're not going to have answers for, and that's the point of the movie. If you can accept that, you can enjoy this movie.

Awesome horror movie...if you don't like shaky cameras or scary movies this is one to avoid...otherwise, it's one of the best movies i've seen in a while.
