A good stout is a work of art, both in taste and appearance. A fine, slow drinking beer that is an excellent companion for a bar stool conversation with an old friend.

I agree with twan that it isn't a great party beer, but its great for nursing at a bar or with a meal. Stouts are usually very flavorful without a lot of bitterness. Good choice most of the time.

Probably not the best choice for partying as they can be very filling, but one or two good stouts with dinner can be great.
