"The Lone Star Rattler" Tavern in Brushfart Texas, probably isn't a wise choice to try this at, but neither would blue-collar bars in virtually any other small town in North America.
I have no doubt that drag bars and gay bars exist in Austin, Dallas, Houston and quite likely in a few other cities in Texas, despite the macho "boots and balls" pretense of the state.

Don't many Texas females look like drag queens?
And how's about Rudy?
UPDATE:
I've heard Austin is civilized.

Texans and strange fans of Texas-mythology want the rest of the world to believe the macho hetero-hype of how tough the good ol' boys are and they don't like no sissy-men down there. . .I'll say it's as equally if not more dangerous to wear one of those silly-ass hats in many places in NYC. . .

Just for my information, is there really any difference between being dressed as a drag queen and actually being a drag queen? Because I'm not sure how anyone could tell the difference.

I suppose it depends on the bar. There are all kinds of things in Dallas for all kinds of people. Austin is a big college town, so probably a lot of "experimenting" going on there.
I wouldn't recommend heading out to the VFW bar in Bowie, Texas in drag, but I'm willing to bet there are a lot of places in a lot of states this applies to.

There might be a couple places in Austin where you could get away with this, but don't mess with Texas, otherwise!

That person would probably last about 10 seconds before getting tossed out the back door...could make for a good reality tv episode.

Not the smartest thing to do in Texas.
