I take your point I like Pie, but among fans of this sort of thing he's revered as a guitar god. Fact is you can largely blame him for the whole shred thing where speed and technique are the be all and end all.

To be fair, he is a bit of a one-trick pony in his songs, but he is still blisteringly fast and has a knowledge and understanding of his instrument which is almost unmatched. He isn't really known widely enough to be overrated.
