This is not just a matter of competition. We also should remember that there are "newbies" that come to RIA, as well as some veterans that may not have been around when the comment was originally made, which are pretty good reasons to "bump" a comment. If a person happens to gain a few extra votes on the way (be it helpful, funny, or agree), it's not like it's going to hurt anything.

It doesn't really bother me. Usually when I repost it's because I either forgot a word or misspelled a word, or something along that line. There have been a few times where I have reposted a single post at least three times within minutes just for a correction. I can see how it might annoy someone. Overall it shouldn't be a big deal.

Every 3 minutes might be a little much, but personally, I`ve got more important things to get annoyed at than someone reposting a comment now and then. Almost every regular reviewer does it to one degree or another. (At least we can be thankful the myspacers and facebookers don`t do it)

And given the frequency with which the comments feature gets used to elaborate or debate an issue, its absolutely valid, in fact a courtesy, to repost under those circumstances.

As far as I`m concerned, the site administrators can deal with this if they perceive a problem. Other than that, I don`t much care.

After all, if I ignored the review the first time, I`ll likely ignore it the next 34 times too.

I'll repost something if I've found a grammar/spelling mistake or if an opinion has changed for some reason.

When I noticed some reviews re-appearing at the top of the 'Recent Reviews' list, I thought that I'd try reposting some of the things I'd written [and posted in the middle of the night] that hadn't been noticed by the day people. The first thing I found out was the fact that without changes, a review wouldn't get to the top of the list, so I made a few minor corrections and/or added an UPDATE and [when my review reposted] found I sometimes got more responses than I would have had I left my midnight oil lamp under a bushel.

Later on, I noticed another phenomenon. On logging back in in the afternoon, some of my earlier posts [from the night before or even from previous nights] had made their way to the top without my doing a thing. Not sure how that happens, or if the reposts I'd originally noticed had also not been reposted by their authors, but I suspect that perhaps someone at RateItAll is bumping up neglected reviews OR maybe it's just some random computer error.

In any case, I've also noticed that only those who object to the content of a reposted review get all bent out of shape about it.

Note: This review has not been edited solely for the purpose of topping the list of Recent Reviews, though that's a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

UPDATE:

I'd prefer being able to re-post without my review going to the top of the list, but that option is unfortunately unavailable.

I only really do it if I'm trying to get some attention for a list.

I don't see anything wrong with this. I believe everybody has done it.

I repost when an update is required, for whatever reason, and its rare. I love Hendrix, but when I see someone reposting over and over. I'll send a message their way for sure. I am convinced that Mr. Fit's motivation is his desire to remain at the top of a list.

I guess it really doesn't annoy me so much as makes me laugh. I don't know if some people are obsessed with being at the top of the list, if they are hoping they get more helpfuls, or if it's just some obsessive compulsive thing. It's funny to read someones post and come back the next day to see two or three new posts with that same one still listed first looking exactly the same.
